Aaryn Flynn, former general manager of RPG wizards BioWare, has joined Improbable to head up the company’s newly-established office in Edmonton, Canada.

Flynn will now serve as North American general manager for Improbable’s new office, which will aim to produce tools, technology, and representative game content for its cloud-based computing platform, SpatialOS.

‘I believe that SpatialOS is going to transform how people make and play games, and with this new office we want to help that to happen. We’ve chosen Edmonton because of Alberta’s experienced development talent, and the new developers produced by several excellent schools in the province. We have some plans for our next steps, and we’re looking forward to talking more about them as we grow,’ said Flynn.

Flynn’s previous role at BioWare saw him heavily involved with a number of major franchises, including Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Improbable confirmed that he will be joined by senior development lead, Neil Thompson, who previously worked at a number of well-known developers including not only BioWare, but also Psygnosis, Sony Liverpool, and Bizarre Creations.

‘Edmonton is a great place to establish this new North American office. Making tools and game content is the next logical step for Improbable, as more developers go beyond the limits of dedicated server architecture into a word of unprecedented scale, complexity and persistence in game design. This is a new world for game development, and I can’t think of a better guide than Aaryn and his team,’ added Improbable CEO, Herman Narula.

Improbable was established by Narula, Rob Whitehead, and Peter Likpa in 2012 and has its headquarters in London, UK.
