Another Supercell game, another money-making megahit. Brawl Stars, released globally last December by the company, has managed to gross over $420 million in the past twelve months. While Clash of Clans and Clash Royale were able to pull in more revenue during that same time frame, Brawl Stars was actually the most profitable game for Supercell across the continent of Asia.
As the fifth title launched globally by Supercell, Brawl Stars has shown that the developers certainly know how to make an excellent mobile game — and how to effectively monetize it. Google Play users spent over $240 million on Brawl Stars in the past year, while App Store players accounted for another $180 million. With 141 million unique installs around world, the top-down shooter is easily one of the most popular mobile games on the market today, and it shows no signs of slowing.
That fact is most obvious in Asia, where mobile gaming is a massive industry — more so even than in the United States. This region alone pulled in $143 million in revenue for Brawl Stars, beating out the $111 million made by Clash of Clans and the $99 million of Clash Royale.
It’s worth pointing out that all of these numbers do not include statistics from China, as Sensor Tower doesn’t track any data from the country. Brawl Stars is only available on Google Play in China, however we wouldn’t be surprised if the game pulled in well over $50 million from Chinese gamers.
Brawl Stars soft-launched over 18 months ago to iOS users in select countries such as Canada, Finland, Singapore, and Hong Kong. As time went by, the game opened up to Android users and was introduced to new regions before releasing globally in December 2018. Supercell used the soft-launch to iron out a few gameplay elements and ensure that the combat was as enjoyable as possible. This is an extremely thorough company, and it has no problem cutting games that are well into development if deemed necessary.
Thankfully, Brawl Stars survived the cutting block and has become a staple title in a roster already packed with excellent games. If Brawl Stars is given the Clash of Clans treatment, expect it to be around for many years to come.
