With retail and gamers alike preparing for what could be the biggest video game launch of all time, Activision has said all the hype will be justified when Modern Warfare 2 eventually launches worldwide on November 10.

“Infinity Ward dated Modern Warfare 2 so early because they know they are producing something very special,” David Tyler, Activision UK’s marketing director told MCV. “It was part of the strategy to actively lay claim on a certain date that we can get retail and consumers focused on and excited about.”

Activision UK MD Andrew Brown is confident the game won’t disappoint.

“Modern Warfare 2 will justify all of the excitement and expectations,” said Brown.

While the launch is expected to be record breaking, Brown also pointed to the continued strong sales enjoyed by earlier games in the Call of Duty franchise, indicating Modern Warfare 2’s success will continue well beyond November 10.

“Call of Duty’s back catalogue has continued to be a huge success story for us all year and has regularly delivered top ten placements in ChartTrack’s All Formats Chart despite competition against much newer titles that have launched.”
