Not too long ago, we heard a rumor that Insomniac Games was going multi-platform. Today, that rumor came true. Usually, Insomniac makes PlayStation exclusives like Resistance, Spyro the Dragon, and Ratchet & Clank. Now their newest franchise will be both for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Details on any new titles have been kept under wraps. This is Insomniac’s first multi-platform release in sixteen years.

Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, has this to say:

“Working with EA Partners allows us to extend the reach of our games to a multiplatform audience while retaining ownership of the intellectual property. We are excited and eager to introduce Insomniac to a new group of gamers while reinforcing to our loyal fans what makes our games special.”

I feel like Insomniac can deliver. Considering Sony owns the rights to Ratchet & Clank, we can expect to see new, fresh games. On Twitter, Insomniac says the former exclusives “will still all be coming to PS3, and we are still committed to Sony and our existing franchises.”

Software exclusivity is a thing of the past. After Bungie and Activision teamed up, it’s no surprise that other developers are taking the same lead. Insomniac is actually dedicated to their fans. David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners is excited for the partnership as well.
