Intel just launched its new 11th Generation Core H-series processors for laptops with one of the most ambitious lineups of mobile CPUs. The Tiger Lake-H series will include five models of processors for consumer use and another five for commercial purposes. The i9-11980HK releases as the flagship model with Intel claiming it to be the “World’s Best Gaming Laptop Processor.” The CPU is capable of reaching a frequency of 5.0 GHz on a single core, or 4.5GHz across all 8 cores. In addition, the i9-11980HK will support overclocking for those looking to squeeze every bit of power out of their laptops.
The new 11th Gen H-series of mobile processors are based on 10 nm SuperFin process technology and the Willow Cove architecture, which aims to increase power and efficiency. The CPUs will also feature 20 PCIe 4.0 lanes and up to 8 cores and 16 threads. In a recent news release, Intel states that “the central processing unit (CPU) can directly access high-speed GDDR6 memory.” This will allow gamers to “experience higher frame rates with lower latency, and load large textures faster.”
The new mobile processors should provide 2.5 times more PCIe bandwidth and a 19% increase in multithreaded performance compared to its 10th Gen counterparts. The 11th Gen series of mobile processors are also aimed towards content creators and business professionals looking for high performance and productivity. The CPUs offer 4k HDR video streaming capabilities and Thunderbolt 4 with data transfer speeds of up to 40 GB/s.
Benchmarks back up Intel’s 11th Gen processors
The 11th Gen mobile processors will likely be competing with AMD’s Ryzen 5000 series when they start hitting the market. Intel’s benchmarks suggest that its i9-11980HK outperformed the Ryzen 9 5900HX in terms of FPS across a wide range of game titles including Far Cry New Dawn and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Intel expects to distribute over 1 million 11th Gen H-series processors to OEM partners such as Acer, HP, and Razer before launch. The company also stated that it will release 80 unique laptop designs, all of which will feature the 11th Gen mobile CPUs, for both consumer and commercial use.
