Retro revival is all the rage lately, and another relic from gaming’s bronze age is setting the stage for a 2020 comeback. The Intellivision, which is nearing its 40th anniversary, is set to make its return with the Amico and has released a ton of new information ahead of an October 2020 release. Intellivision is going all-in as the Amico nears its launch with exclusive merchandise and previews of the console’s offerings.

Intellivision CEO Tommy Tallerico recently gave gamers a chance to meet the Amico team and get a better look at the console along with its recently redesigned controller. In addition to that, there is a tremendous push to ensure the Amico is not just a niche product and will stand on its own. Intellivision claims that 25 “world class developers” are working on software for the system which will play homage to to the classics and even bring back Earthworm Jim from exile.

Tallerico’s presentation shows that, unlike the troubled production of the Atari VCS, development is in full swing. The push to get information out for the system includes an extended sale on Intellivision merchandise available directly from their website where one can nab a 25% discount before December 31 by entering AMICO25 when checking out.

If nothing else, the Amico looks like it has wings and is not actively relying on aging gamers to market the console. The simplicity of games from this era fall more in line with the mobile games of today and the idea of marketing it for local multiplayer experiences is a good move. Tallerico has been involved in the industry longer than current generation gamers have been alive, and his guidance as well as a group of developers who are taking this job seriously seems to be a good sign for Intellivision.

How that will translate in October is yet to be seen. While there is a long time between now and then with plenty of information yet to be released, this actually looks like it has legs. If nothing else, fans can get some legitimately cool gear at a discount before the end of the year.
