While players who are still enjoying Hitman 2 will be getting plenty of new material in November, those who would like something more may be getting their wishes granted. In a new update on its official site, developer IO Interactive has confirmed that it is already working on a potential Hitman 3 “We’re already looking at what’s to come next for the Hitman franchise,” states the blog. This is as close to promising a third installment as it gets.

Last year saw the release of Hitman 2, which in current gaming terms represents an eternity. It was obvious that the third iteration in the rebooted franchise would be coming, even if this announcement seems a bit soon. The first rebooted Hitman, which came out in 2016, had new episodes periodically release up until Hitman 2 eventually came out.

The second entry scrapped the episodic format but has been dropping new content on a monthly basis. Now, according to the official release from IOI, there will be even more stuff to look forward to. This essentially translates into at least two content drops a week, along with some weeks having four

What really tickled fans who read the announcement was the hint that IO is looking at “what’s to come next.” Still, the company warns that there is still much work to do on the existing game: “We’ve still got a lot we want to do with HITMAN 2 before then, starting with a bumper roadmap of content!” the release adds.

First reported by Game Rant, the developers have already hinted at Hitman 3 several times before. Back in July of this year, as TheGamer reported, a documentary revealed that the studio was turning its attention to the sequel. Back then, IOI CEO Hakan Abrak said that its vision has always been to create three chapters. However, the plan has never been explicitly confirmed, which remains the case even now.

The mentioned “bumper roadmap of content” that is to come before the new game could mean that Hitman 3 won’t see the light of day very soon. With divided attention between keeping up with the existing game and making a new one, it is hard to predict when the latter will hit the shelves. While you’re waiting, though, be sure to re-watch the Noclip documentary in preparation for the November drops. Otherwise, try to sit still.
