We live in an industry where bizarre rumors fly around like it’s nothing. With the gaming world being in a frantic state of buying, there’s always going to be some speculation that a big-money acquisition is right around the corner. The latest in this strange line of rumors involves Elon Musk buying Fortnite, the ever-popular battle royale title from Epic Games. But did he actually buy Fortnite? Let’s answer that here.

Is Elon Musk Buying Fortnite?

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: no, Elon Musk did not buy Fortnite. It’s nothing more than a goofy rumor that happened to pop up to fuel the strange rumor mills surrounding Elon and Fortnite, specifically with Elon’s propensity to make expensive purchases. But where did this particular rumor come from? Well, a joke on Elon’s Twitter feed seems to be what caused it.

Recently, a 2018 tweet from Elon Musk resurfaced, where he posted a headline that read “Elon Musk buys Fortnite and deletes it” with a fake quote saying “I had to save these kids from eternal virginity.” Elon posted this article headline with the caption “Had to been done ur welcome.” It appears to have all been done in jest, though, and no actual deal has come close to being put in place.

So there you go; Elon Musk is not buying Twitter. Now we can get back to our regularly scheduled programming, and for you Fortnite fans, check out Twinfinite’s look at the next season of Fortnite Chapter 3.
