Attention, God of War fans! Give Kratos a break from maiming Sub-Zero for a few seconds and listen up. The bits and pieces of information regarding God of War 4 are starting to flow faster than the wine at an Aphrodite swingers’ party. This time the news comes in the form of a release window. Gamers everywhere can now mark September as the most brutal month of 2012.

According to actual ink-and-paper source PSM3, work on God of War 4 is already under way and should be ready to decapitate retail shelves in September of next year.

Here’s what they had to say:

Let’s take a moment to check the score. So far, that’s one leaked God of War 4 “animation test” that was later debunked by the animator as having nothing to do with the actual game… wink. Then there was the job posting that was looking for new potential God of War team members who are wise in the ways of online features. And now, finally, a pretty specific release stamp.

“PSM3 has heard from another source that God of War 4 is coming, and will hit in September 2012…Our source works closely with the God of War universe, and let slip he’d be working on a related project at the same time.”

Despite being able to name an exact month for release, any release date for a game that is still well over a year away from getting into players’ hands should be taken with a Titan-sized grain of salt. While it is great news to hear that the God of War universe will consume PlayStation 3’s once again, was there really ever any doubt?

The God of War franchise is one of the shining achievements of the medium, and a nearly flawless gaming experience to boot. One doesn’t need to be blessed with Athena’s wisdom to figure out that even though God of War 3 put a nice bit of closure on the original trilogy, it wasn’t the last we would see of this series.

Do you think this God of War 4 release date sounds legit? Should we all shave our heads, paint ourselves white, burn a set of chained steak-knives onto our arms, and get ready to take the month of September off for the release of Kratos’ (or whomever else) next adventure? Or should we just be happy that we’ll get to slay many a creature at some point in the future? Just in case this news is accurate, keep your fingers crossed that the whole 2012 apocalypse happens after September.

Semptember 2012 is a long ways off, but Game Rant will keep you covered until then with all the God of War 4 news you can handle.
