A recent leak from AnEvilHag on Twitter pointed at the possibility of three new titles from Telltale games. The most notable was a potential James Bond game: 007 Solstice. Two more images suggested the possibilities of Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 and Tales from the Borderlands Season 2.
Although the exact tweet has since been deleted, AnEvilHag admitted on NeoGAF forums that all three leaks are unconfirmed. However, there is enough evidence to support that the leaks have some substance to them. On June 2, the Australian Classification Board gave Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 - Episode 1: Hero in Residence a PG rating. Additionally, in 2014 Kevin Bruner, the co-founder of Telltale Games, told OXM (The Official Xbox Magazine) that he would gladly make a James Bond game under the right circumstances. “I am a giant James Bond fan and I’m always frustrated by games that make him a mass murderer.” said Bruner. “He’s a super spy, and that’s a different skillset. The films make him less of a mass murderer, and there’s not much killings in the books - more spying and intrigue.”
Telltale games was founded in 2004. Since its inception, the company has created massive hits such as The Walking Dead series, The Wolf Among Us, and Game of Thrones. They are most notable for their episodic games and tie-ins with major series from other media. Their newest title, Marvel’s The Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, is set to release on June 6th.
The possibility of a new James Bond game could easily go either way. The most recent James Bond game, James Bond: World of Espionage, was released by Glu Mobile back in 2015 for iOS and Android devices. Before that was in 2012 with the last of Activision’s James Bond titles: 007 Legends for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. With so many reboots and remasters coming out in recent years, the gaming community is ripe for a new James Bond game.
E3 is just around the corner and video game leaks like these are common. Thankfully, the validity of the Minecraft leak makes the others more plausible. Telltale has proven itself to be masterful when it comes to adapting movies and tv shows to video games. If anyone could pull off a James Bond video game, it would be them.
