Nintendo Japan has announced that production of its Wii U console will soon come to an end.

Meanwhile Nintendo US has told Kotaku that it won’t be shipping any additional Wii U hardware to US retail this fiscal year.

“We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability,” states Nintendo.

We assume this means production has ceased for good, and it won’t pick up again from April 2017 onward, at which point the platform holder will have launched Nintendo Switch.

The news comes shortly after Nintendo denied reports that production was to end in the first week on November.
