After taking $46 million at the US box office last weekend it appears Sony is ready to move ahead with the franchise, The Wrap reports.

“The Ghostbusters world is alive and well,” Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at the studio, told The Wrap on Sunday. “I expect Ghostbusters to become an important brand and franchise.”

“While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen,” he added.

Whether that means Paul Feig’s female busters Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon will return isn’t clear, but you’d assume this to be the case.

Still, with a production budget of $144 million, Ghostbusters will need to perform well in the coming weeks to turn a healthy profit. It’s expected the movie will go on to gross over $100 million in the US, but how high it goes will depend on achieving a positive buzz around the reboot.
