It has taken four years, but the background music glitch in the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy VII has been fixed, even though it was already fixed in the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One ports over the summer.

The background music glitch has been present since the 2013 remastered PC port of Final Fantasy VII. In the original PlayStation version of Final Fantasy VII, the field music would pause whenever a player entered a battle and would resume when the fight was over. The remastered version of the game suffers from a glitch where the field music restarts each time it’s interrupted by a battle, making it hard for the player to hear an entire music track without disabling encounters using the in-game cheats.

The PlayStation 4 port of Final Fantasy VII was released on December 5, 2015, and it shipped with the background music glitch. The official Final Fantasy VII Remake Facebook page is reporting that a patch has finally been released for the PlayStation 4 version of the game that fixes the background music glitch, along with other minor bugs in the game.

The background music glitch was already fixed in the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One ports of the game back in May. It’s surprising that Sony and Square Enix waited this long to release a patch for the PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy VII, especially as it was released several years before the other console ports. It’s possible that they are preparing for a resurgence of interest in the original Final Fantasy VII, due to the impending release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, and they wanted all of the annoying glitches fixed.

Final Fantasy VII has one of the best soundtracks in video game history, and it’s a shame that it was affected by a glitch for so long in the PlayStation 4 version of the game. The original version of Final Fantasy VII had its fair share of bugs at launch, and the remastered versions can never seem to fully escape from audio and visual issues.
