A little more information has eked out about the upcoming first project from Haven Studios, established last March by former Assassin’s Creed executive producer Jade Raymond.
A profile of the studio by Canadian outlet LeDevoir (via Google Translate & Eurogamer) gives us some small, but not insignificant details. Namely that the game will be a “persistent and scalable” online game. However, rather than similar games of its ilk, it’ll follow the new studio’s directives to “promote inclusion and caring.”
The article also reveals that Haven Studios has now grown by three times the size since it started. This is, in part, thanks to a boost in funding through partnering with PlayStation on the upcoming game. Back in March, it was revealed that the unnamed title will be a new IP and land on PlayStation. Specifically, the article adds the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
To that end, LeDevoir claims, the outfit is also working with PlayStation 5 architect Mark Cerny. Raymond says this collaboration will help the team’s goals, saying “Our ambition will be to push the console’s technical capabilities further”. Just last week, Sony mentioned during its latest earnings report it intended to launch ten live service games by 2026. Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume that Haven’s project will be one of them.
Raymond established Haven following the dissolution of her Google Stadia Games & Entertainment division last year. The team has already picked up, among others, Assassin’s Creed art director Raphael Lacoste. There’s still no telling when we’ll see the team’s first game, but with Sony’s backing, we can presume we’ll hear more about it in the not-too-distant future.
