Bandai Namco recently released a new trailer for its upcoming game based on the super successful One Punch Man anime, subtitled A Hero Nobody Knows. Not only does the trailer showcase the game’s opening cinematic—you know Bandai Namco is serious about a new anime game when it gets its own anime intro—but it even features a new song by Japanese band JAM Project.

If the name sounds unfamiliar, fans of One Punch Man will nonetheless recognize JAM Project as the group responsible for the opening songs to both seasons one and two of the One Punch Man anime. While a One Punch Man video game could theoretically exist without the participation of JAM Project, their contribution to the game is a comforting sign that the game may be able to capture some of the magic of the beloved show in a playable form.

JAM Project’s new song featured in the game’s opening cinematic is called “Freaking Out!” and starts with a shout of “one punch!” over wailing guitars, just like the band’s first opening for the One Punch Man anime. It’s a different vocal recording and a different guitar riff, but will still ring true as a return to the style that has come to define the music of One Punch Man.

The cinematic, in traditional anime fashion, showcases the main protagonists and villains of the show and thus the game. Since the game is based on the first season of the One Punch Man anime, the main cast of heroes (and anti-heroes) is shown fighting the Deep Sea King, who appears as a villain in the latter half of season one. Featured characters include Mumen Rider, Tatsumaki, Speed-o’-Sound Sonic, Genos and of course, Saitama. Season one’s final boss, Lord Boros, also makes a cameo appearance near the end of the intro video. All of these characters and others are playable in-game.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows is a fighting game with a unique mechanic that incorporates Saitama’s ability to defeat any foe with one punch without ruining the game’s balance. It will be released on February 28th, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
