Right on time for the New Year’s celebrations, Sony has revealed its PlayStation Plus free game selections for the month of January. PS Plus subscribers will be able to enjoy Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Goat Simulator throughout the month and beyond.
Admittedly, Sony has not officially announced these games as part of its PS Plus January offerings but a promo image leaked that appears to be legitimate. The Wednesday before the first Tuesday of each month is when Sony typically reveals its new PS Plus free games, so the timing is hard to overlook. Either way, fans should find out whether it’s these games or something else later today.
Given the ages of the two games, it’s safe to say that the offerings will excite some PS Plus subscribers while others will be disappointed. The Uncharted series is easily one of Sony’s flagships and the opportunity to play the first three on PS4 will be too good for many to pass up. Then again, if you are a Sony fan and a PlayStation owner, the chances are good that you have already beaten the whole Uncharted franchise.
Either way, the timing is good for newcomers to the Uncharted series, as Uncharted 4 is part of PlayStation Now’s selection after Sony changed up the service in October. So, a new PS4 owner could get through the whole series for relatively cheap.
While Uncharted is generally considered a great series, Goat Simulator is a little more hit-or-miss and was one of the Xbox Games With Gold in 2016. Some find the whacky charm of the game endearing, but others consider the concept unappealing. Basically, players control a goat and are tasked with causing destruction on a massive scale to earn a high score. For many, it’s a one-trick pony, but a unique and weird one at that.
As we enter 2020, there are a lot of questions about PlayStation Plus and how the service will or won’t change with the launch of the PS5. With the promise of full backward compatibility and the ability to render load times nonexistent, there is a chance that Sony could bring many of its marquee PS4 titles onto the PS5 through PS Plus. That way, new PS5 owners have an opportunity to see the power of their console in terms of improving existing games.
The PS Plus January 2020 Games should be available for download on Tuesday, January 7th.
