Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is one of the best Star Wars titles that has released in recent memory. Fans of action titles like Uncharted or even the older Jedi Knight series will have a blast playing Respawn’s newest title.

The overall glowing reception for this game shows that there are plenty of features and mechanics critics and gamers alike love about Fallen Order. With that glowing reception, a sequel is destined to be in development at some point. Some systems could be expanded or added in the sequel, making a sequel to Fallen Order potentially one of the best Star Wars games ever. Here are 5 amazing mechanics that need to stay and 5 ideas for the inevitable sequel.

10 Love: Force Slow

Jedi are known for their wide array of force powers, being able to control or destroy anything that gets in their way. Cal might be a padawan, but he still has some satisfying powers to use.

The best one in his arsenal is force slow. This ability allows Cal to slow enemy attacks, projectiles, and even objects in the environment. It is masterfully used in puzzles and combat alike. Slowing a wall of projectiles and pulling the enemy through them has to be one of the coolest things you can do in a Star Wars game.

9 Needs to be Added: Space Combat

Fallen Order focuses on infantry combat for most of the game, utilizing Cal’s force abilities and lightsaber expertise to scrape by. The few sections with vehicle combat are a nice change of pace and should be expanded upon.

Since players get to be part of a crew that owns a ship, wouldn’t it be awesome to have space combat in the sequel? Dogfighting is just as iconic as lightsabers in the Star Wars universe and is something Respawn should look into if they ever create a sequel.

8 Love: Wall-Running

Titanfall has some of the best maneuverability any video game has ever seen. Players could fling themselves off of walls to run on adjacent walls or objects.

While not as fluid as in that game, the wall-running and climbing in Fallen Order is something to commend for its fluidity. Not only can users use force powers to help with various puzzles, but they can also use their sheer mobility to cross gaps that are otherwise impossible to maneuver around. Fallen Order may have great combat, but the mobility Cal has while exploring is one of the game’s highlights.

7 Needs to be Added: Companions

Well, there are technically companions in the game. They only talk to the player however, or they will interact with each other in cutscenes.

Having these characters talk and fight alongside the players ould have been a fantastic addition to this game. Companions could mention more about themselves and their story as players explored with them, similar to how Knights of the Old Republic handled companions. Also, having an ally to help you in combat could allow Respawn to make even more intense combat scenarios than what is currently possible.

6 Love: Exploration

Dark Souls is an obvious inspiration for Fallen Order, from the combat to the meditation areas that work like bonfires do in the Souls series.

In that same vein, Fallen Order’s exploration is fantastic, arguably on par with the Uncharted series. Climbing up large setpieces or running on walls in incredible backdrops is simply breathtaking. Secrets litter each level to further enhance immersion and encourage exploring. This is as good as the combat and should definitely be in the next game.

5 Needs to be Added: More Player Customization

Customizing your poncho is cool, and there is a little bit of lightsaber customization players can do. Unfortunately, that’s about all of the ways players can change their character.

More lightsaber options would be a great start, allowing different colors for each end of the double-sided lightsaber blade, or unique hilts that are shaped differently from traditional lightsabers. Being able to change your character’s species and gender would be amazing additions as well, letting players personalize their character and grow further attached to them.

4 Love: Skill Tree

The skill tree might be somewhat barebones compared to games like KOTOR, but what is here adds to the game overall.

Unlocking new lightsaber attacks and general improvements to your abilities is fantastic for pacing. Players get to pick a wide range of upgrades in nearly any order they please. If this system can be expanded some more in the sequel, it could be a truly amazing staple of the Fallen Order series. This needs to stay!

3 Needs to be Added: More Force Powers

The Jedi Knight and Force Unleashed titles allow players to use way more abilities than Cal can use, including force speed and force lightning.

While the force powers that exist in Fallen Order are impactful and interesting, they pale in quantity compared to other titles. Adding powers like Jedi mind tricks or force speed would add even more depth to the game. It could even be incorporated into the skill tree or a new alignment progression system.

2 Love: Lightsaber Combat

Methodical lightsaber strikes haven’t been a focus for Star Wars video games since Jedi Academy came out over a decade ago. Fallen Order is a triumphant return to form.

The deliberate strikes players make against enemies helps sell how difficult yet powerful a lightsaber is to wield. Tactical dodges and force power use further add to the moment to moment action, helping Fallen Order stand out from its contemporaries. If the lightsaber combos and force powers could be expanded in the next game, we could have something that finally rivals Jedi Academy.

1 Needs to be Added: Force Alignment

Cal is a light side force user, believing in the old Jedi ways than the ruthless Empire that currently rules the galaxy. Being a padawan, Cal has a long way to go before becoming a Jedi master.

But what if the player doesn’t want to be a Jedi? Being able to influence Cal—or maybe a new playable character—based on the player’s actions throughout the game would be fantastic. Turning into a sith by being ruthless in combat and dialogue could allow for so much added replay value for fans of the series. Entire missions could change based on the player’s force alignment as well, combining the best of KOTOR and the Jedi Knight series to create one of the best Star Wars titles ever made. Hopefully, if Respawn ever creates a sequel, they will deepen the RPG systems to help make the sequel truly great.
