The second season of Jessica Jones was a hit with critics. We praised the show for its willingness to step out of the shadow of its excellent first season, and how it shows genuine growth for Jessica, Trish Walker, Malcolm, Jeri Hogarth, and others. But the big question is: will Jessica Jones Season 3 happen?
Yes it will. This is good to know because Jessica Jones Season 3 was never a sure thing, as nothing should be taken for granted with any Netflix show, let alone a Marvel one. And things have been looking pretty bleak for the Marvel Netflix Universe in general, with cancelations of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil, and The Punisher. And, of course, they just axed Jessica Jones before season three even aired. But don’t worry, that third season will still stream on Netflix, there just won’t be any more after that.

The first full trailer for the third and final season of Jessica Jones has arrived. It seems that the super-judgy stalker from the release date teaser is Gregory Salinger (Russian Doll‘s Jeremy Bobb), otherwise known in the lore of Marvel Comics as the Foolkiller. An zealous extremist, Salinger is not only dangerously intelligent, but has seemingly inveigled Jeri Hogarth into turning to the dark side to provide him her legal services.
As previously announced, Krysten Ritter will be stepping behind the camera for an episode of Jessica Jones Season 3, making her directorial debut. Thus, Netflix has released this behind-the-scenes video documenting her job-hopping odyssey.
The release date announcement for the third season of Jessica Jones arrived with this brief teaser trailer, revealing that this season’s mysterious antagonist is going to attack our favorite super-powered P.I.’s credibility.

“While the first two seasons played it closer to the vest with more personal stories, for its swan song the Netflix series expands its narrative scope, placing the notoriously aloof PI squarely into the court of public opinion. With her every move scrutinized on social media, from hunting down a serial killer to slowly letting Trish back into her life, Jessica must decide how beholden she is to the people she’s protecting versus when she should revert to trusting only herself. It’s a natural progression both for this series and in context with the last few years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sure takes its sweet time getting there.”

Jessica Jones Season 3 Story
Here’s the official synopsis:
Krysten Ritter will make her directorial debut for an episode this season. “I am beyond thrilled to make my directorial debut on Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” Ritter said in a statement. “The entire crew and cast has become family to me, and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to work with our incredible team in this new way. I am so grateful that Melissa Rosenberg, Jeph Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix entrusted me to take the reins.”
Last year at Comicpalooza, Krysten Ritter explained that season 3 will continue the evolution of Jessica as a person and as a hero (via comicbook). Although season 2 was a hit with critics, some viewers were left a bit cold by the slow burn storytelling, which spent a lot of time establishing Jessica’s newfound relationship with a volatile mother she had thought was long dead. Mulling Jessica’s journey so far, Ritter had this to say:

“I don’t really regard it as a cancellation so much as something having the life that it should have. Three seasons of that story is great. Rather than thinking of it as something that was cancelled, I think of it as something that had three seasons that will live in the memory.”
He also confirmed that his iconic villain, Kilgrave, will not pop up in season 3.
We expect Rachael Taylor will continue her journey on the road to becoming Hellcat. There haven’t been any other official announcements, but that should change soon!
