Lookin’ cool, Joker! A brand new promotional video for the highly anticipated Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers has just been released featuring all-new game footage, including a rad new red-haired form of our favorite silent protagonist, Joker.
Atlus dropped the second promotional video for the eagerly awaited Persona 5 sequel game on its official YouTube channel, which featured four minutes of brand new content including gameplay footage, cutscenes of the famous Phantom Thieves in action, as well as some fun moments between Joker and his friends hanging out around Japan. Though the video is only just under four minutes long, there’s a lot to unpack.
Persona 5 Scramble will be s a hack-and-slash game, which means it’ll feature real-time combat versus Persona 5’s original turn-based fighting. This new trailer showed off more fighting footage, including the incorporation of “Ambush”-style attacks and “Baton Passes” from the parent game with this new combat. Despite the new Dynasty Warriors fighting-style mechanics, this new footage gives the impression that stealth and strategy will be integral skills during combat, just like in Persona 5.
Other notable moments in the new footage included a large number of detailed cutscenes of The Phantom Thieves in action. New cutscenes also featured some of the previously announced new characters in the game, including new Phantom Thief Sophia and police officer Zenkichi Hasegawa. The Thieves can be seen fighting alongside Sophia, as well as encountering Hasegawa, a police officer who’s following their trails.
But probably the most exciting part of the new promotional video comes about two minutes in, when Joker undergoes a transformation that changes him from a black-haired and pale-skinned fighter to a bright red-haired and grey-skinned one. Though there are no details regarding why Joker undergoes this transformation or what it means, it’s still incredibly exciting.
The more Atlus reveals about this game, the less it feels like a cash-grabby “spin-off” of Persona 5 - as many dedicated fans initially feared the game would be - and more like a legitimate and worthwhile addition to the Persona 5 story.
Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers will be released in Japan for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on February 20. No Western release date has been announced.
