Halo Infinite has been suffering from a lack of new maps and content in the eyes of its players. It’s taken a long while to receive new modes and maps, and a lot of the most promising content such as cooperative campaign and Forge mode are still far away. Thankfully, Joseph Staten, head of creative at 343 Industries and a long-time developer on the Halo series, has teased that fans might be able to look forward to some classic Halo maps making a comeback.

Staten recently appeared on the Kinda Funny Xcast for an in-depth interview about the present state of Halo Infinite and what’s in store for the future. Parris Lilly asked how feasible it would be for older Halo maps to return in Halo Infinite, a question that many folks in the community have been wondering.

Staten responded by saying, “I can talk about some things, but I can’t talk about others.” Continuing, he said: “There are some great Halo maps. I think we all have our personal favorite. Guardian, Blood Gulch, The Pit. There are a lot of maps that are awesome, right? I think it’d be awesome to play on those maps again, don’t you guys? That sounds like a fun thing.”

This is far from an official confirmation, but Staten’s playful tone of voice suggests that something could be brewing. Maps like The Pit and Guardian are fan-favorite maps for Halo veterans, so we hope this turns out to be true.

The more, the merrier

Halo Infinite launched with a total of 10 maps, and it has introduced two new maps with the launch of Season 2. However, while players are enjoying Catalyst and Breaker, it’s hard to imagine that these maps will be enough to satiate players for another six months until the start of Season 3.

The introduction of new modes has also helped to make the available maps more replayable. Last Spartan Standing has been met with a mostly positive reception as Halo’s take on a smaller-scale battle royale. New playlist updates introduced in Season 2 have added fun variant modes such as Ninja Slayer and Vampireball.

The team at 343 is aware that content is everything for a live-service game like Halo Infinite, so hopefully, those classic maps can appear sooner rather than later.
