Longtime Marvel movie and TV creator Joss Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct and produce DC’s Batgirl for Warner, reports Variety.

The film will form part of the DC Extended Universe. The project only began to come together in the past month after Whedon met with DC Extended Universe overlords Jon Berg and Geoff Johns.

The Batgirl film would also feature characters from the world of Gotham.

Whedon is famous for creating the Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series, later going on to write and direct The Avengers and Age of Ultron for Marvel, plus the S.H.I.E.L.D. tv series.

Next in line for DC is Wonder Woman this summer, followed by Justice League in November and Aquaman in December 2018.
