Another game in the Just Cause series is happening, as Square Enix has confirmed in an investors briefing (via VG 24/7).
Nothing much else about the game came to light in the briefing, just that the game exists:
“We want to focus on creating new titles that align with our strategy, including ones that leverage new IP. The Just Cause franchise will remain our IP, and we are at work developing a new title in the franchise.”
Just Cause is one of the franchises that will not go to Embracer Group, who recently bought a number of Square Enix’s Western IPs. The ones that Embracer bought were the likes of Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and even Legacy of Kain. Other IPs, such as Life is Strange and Outriders, will remain with Square Enix.
The last game in the series was Just Cause 4. Which was set in a troubled tropical paradise which was best with hurricanes. It was a fun time. In VideoGamer’s review of that game, I said:
“The master stroke of Just Cause 4 is that it puts you in Rico’s position; as long as you can stay airborne and keep the high going, you can fill a weekend with cheap thrills the likes of which you’ll get nowhere else.”
