Kadokawa Games is currently in negotiations to create a brand new title for the PlayStation 5.
The next-gen consoles are coming, and game makers are eager to get in on the ground floor of the next generation. Kadokawa Games is just one such company that’s angling to make a game for the PlayStation 5 soon after the console’s planned release in 2020.
In an interview with Twinfinite, company President Yoshimi Yasuda said that Kadokawa is currently hard at work on a number of titles. While two games, Project Europa and Project Stella, are planned to be released on the current generation of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, Kadokawa is in negotiations to make a brand new title for the PlayStation 5.
The planned game would be created by the same team that made God Wars: Future Past, a tactical turn-based RPG that originally released back in 2017 for the PS4 and PS Vita. An expanded version of the game called God Wars: The Complete Legend, released on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, and on Windows PC in June of 2019.
God Wars takes much of its themes from Japanese folklore, with a distinct 2D art-style that was praised by critics and players alike. The game was relatively well-received, with a Metacritic score of 74 across 16 reviews.
We don’t have any other info on what this new PS5 game could be, but we do have information on several other upcoming Kadokawa games. Project Stella is a new title based on a mobile game called Starly Girls. It combines cute anime girls and giant mechas in a simulation RPG. The title will almost certainly change by the time the game releases on Xbox One and PS4 in 2020.
Another game called Root Film is planned to release in Japan on April 23, 2020. A mystery adventure title, the game is the direct sequel to Root Letter and part of the Game Mystery series. A Western release is planned for later in 2020.
