The latest addition to the playable roster in Marvel’s Avengers is Kamala Khan, who is the hero better known as Ms. Marvel.

Kamala Khan has been part of the Marvel Comics universe since 2013, taking up the mantle of Ms. Marvel from Carol Danvers when she became Captain Marvel. Khan’s powers allow her to change the shape of her body at will, as well as being able to drastically increase her size and swiftly heal from wounds. The source of Khan’s powers is the Terrigen Mists, which is a central aspect of the lore of The Inhumans comic series.

Ms. Marvel has been a playable character in several Marvel video games in the past and she is going to have a central role in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers as one of the people affected by the A-Day catastrophe. In Marvel’s Avengers, the Avengers are forced to disband after Captain America is killed during an incident involving the destruction of the helicarrier, which was powered by a Terrigen crystal. Khan was present during the events of A-Day and the destruction of the crystal led to her gaining superpowers. The addition of Ms. Marvel to Marvel’s Avengers was revealed during New York Comic Con and a story trailer has been uploaded to the official PlayStation YouTube channel.

Ms. Marvel was briefly shown during the early gameplay trailers of Marvel’s Avengers, but the fans were unsure if this was just a background cameo or whether she will be playable. It has now been confirmed that Ms. Marvel is the main character in Marvel’s Avengers and that she will be a key figure in bringing the team back together following the events of A-Day.

Kevin Feige has discussed plans to introduce Ms. Marvel into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in the future, which means that there are likely still many Marvel fans who aren’t aware of the character. The fact that Ms. Marvel has the starring role in one of the biggest Marvel games of all time will be an effective test run to see if she can become as popular with general audiences as she is with the fans of the comics.

Marvel’s Avengers is due to be released for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on May 15, 2020.
