Square Enix has announced that their upcoming action shooter sequel, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be hitting store shelves on August 24 in North America and August 27 throughout Europe. The title will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC via the Games for Windows label. But that’s not all a brand new trailer has also been released which gives us our first look at some gameplay footage. Oh, how they spoil us.

The new trailer, entitled Welcome To Shanghai, features the dastardly duo shooting their way through the gritty streets of Shanghai as they chase down a semi-nude man. The footage seems to be entirely from the in-game engine, and for the first time we get to see the low budget, digital video style filter we’ve heard mentioned before. Why not check it out for yourself:

The trailer has certainly piqued my interest in the title; while the graphics weren’t mind blowing, I found the camera-work was very reminiscent of Paul Greengrass’ and Michael Mann’s work. Which is of-course is no bad thing as it adds a raw and realistic quality to the action.  I think that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has the potential to offer up a solid crime based shooter with a mature storyline, which is something that I can totally get behind. That is, if IO Interactive can polish up the controls and fix some of the gameplay mechanics from the first game.

Has the Dog Days trailer caught your eye? What do you make of the glitchy digital video style filter?

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on August 24th.
