Certainly becoming more than most people would have expected, a comic book series based on Kane & Lynch is getting published via DC WildStorm. You may also remember that there is also a movie based on the game coming out next year starring Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx.

So what’s the mentality behind a move into comic books? IO Interactive general manager Niels Jørgensen says:

Hank Kanalz of DC Comics added:

“We could not be happier about this partnership and expansion into comics. Who better to work with than DC Comics? We hope the comic book world is ready for the violent mayhem of Kane & Lynch.”

The WildStorm division of DC publishes series like The Authority, Wild C.A.T.S., and other author-owned works. The series will be written by Ian Edginton (2000 AD, Aliens, Predator), penciled by Chris Mitten (WASTELAND), and cover art by my personal favorite, Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Wormwood, Criminal Macabre).

“Kane & Lynch are two of the most interesting videogame characters I have ever seen. I think this new series will show the diversity of our line of books, as our creators capture the essence of these two criminals.”

Crime drama is always a very good storyteller in comic books. In fact, one of my favorite comics is, indeed, a crime drama (Criminal). As a comic fan, I’m going to be picking it up because it’s a crime drama and I actually like the Kane & Lynch franchise; I’m hoping that one of the oldest storytelling mediums in the world will be a suitable venue for it.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be available in an interactive medium, rather than print medium, on August 25, 2010 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
