A recent European product listing has indicated that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 will be heading to Xbox One this month. On the now removed Microsoft Store UK page, the HD collection was said to be released on February 18, 2020. A compilation containing a remaster of the 3DS game Dream Drop Distance and the Kingdom Hearts III prologue 0.2: Birth By Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage, Square Enix has been quiet about when Microsoft’s console would receive the rest of the series.

It’s been a few months since the company announced that it would be bringing the entire Kingdom Hearts catalog to Xbox One. For years now, Sony fans have been able to enjoy HD remasters of the classic PS2 titles along with a smattering of all the portable spin-offs on both PS3 and PS4. When Kingdom Hearts III launched on Xbox One, the dream was that the rest of the series would follow.

News of 2.8 getting released likely indicates that Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 will also be landing on the same day. That would mean players could stop waiting around and finish off this confusing and convoluted series on their console of choice. Better still, the site noted that 2.8 would have Xbox One X support for 4K Ultra HD resolutions. That’s a nice bonus.

Odd naming conventions aside, these HD remasters of past Kingdom Hearts titles are a solid deal if you’re a fan. They allow you to enjoy all the games in one place without much fuss. They also have wonderfully updated visuals accompanied by a fully orchestrated rendition of the soundtracks.

It’s a little puzzling why Square Enix wouldn’t just make a single package for Xbox One, but there’s also no difference in having two discs/downloads. You’d still have everyone on one device, which is the entire point of this remaster. No need to dig out an outdated portable system to experience a chunk of the story.

Whether or not the February release date is true, Square Enix is likely close to having these ports done. We should probably expect to see them sooner, rather than later. February is also a decent time to launch with comparatively little coming out.
