Four new monarchs are crossing gaming dimensions in Kingdom Two Crowns: Dead Lands. The free update will introduce an unlikely assortment of new heroes from an entirely different game. Dead Lands summons Miriam and three others from ArtPlay’s and Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The free update will be available on April 28.

Speaking of dimensions, the Bloodstained characters are about to lose one. Kingdom Two Crowns is a 2D, sidescrolling game where a chosen monarch atop of pixelated steed is set to rebuild their kingdom. It blends medieval and feudal Japanese themes while adding a healthy dash of the macabre.

The setting should, at least, feel comfy for characters from the equally macabre Bloodstained. Miriam, the lead character of Igarashi’s Metroid-like takes the spotlight. However, she is joined by her fellows, including Zangetsu, Gebel, and Alfred. You’ll be able to swap monarchs as you play, utilizing each of their special abilities. I imagine Miriam will be able to use her shardbinder powers in some respect, whereas the alchemist Alfred will likely warp around and just be a pain in my ass. Or maybe not.

Ritual of the Knight

Kingdom Two Crowns: Dead Lands certainly brings a unique pairing of games. I certainly didn’t expect it. Fans of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Kingdom should feel overjoyed with the latest in jolly cooperation, however. Speaking of which, Two Crowns does include a co-op mode, and the pairing of Miriam with the supernatural-hunting Zangetsu is something I’d love to see.

The announcement made little mention of each character’s powers, unfortunately. It does tell us that Miriam’s demon horse is named Gamigin, which is just super. The artwork for Dead Lands was created by ArtPlay’s Mana Ikeda, the original illustrator for Ritual of the Night.

Kingdom Two Crowns: Dead Lands will be available to download on April 28.
