Kingdom Under Fire 2 Finally Makes Its Way Out West Later This Year

As an old fan of Phantasy Star Online, hearing that its sequel is finally heading out West made me feel as if I had the patience of a saint. Patience that was, of course, well rewarded — the game originally released in Japan in 2012. But today I stand in awe for MMO players who have been waiting to hear the good news for Kingdom Under Fire 2. The game was announced by South Korean developer Blueside way back in 2008. To put it in perspective, that’s the year Fallout 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV came out. Several betas and eleven years have passed, but soon the wait will be over. Kingdom Under Fire 2 is at last heading out West, and it will be available on PC later this year.

If you’re wondering where you should send your “thank you” cards, drop them off at Gameforge’s mail box. The German publisher has swept up the rights for the game, and is bringing it soon to North America and Europe. Gameforge has been being many MMOs, such as Guardians of Ember and Tera. Indeed, the team has a lot of experience with the genre. Kingdom Under Fire 2 looks to be in capable hands.

“The Kingdom Under Fire series is a favorite among those of us at Gameforge, so we’re very excited to partner with Blueside to continue this epic saga and finally bring it to Western markets for the very first time,” Tomislav Perkovic, CPO of Gameforge, said in the press release. “We are determined to help Blueside realize their vision of the ultimate MMO, launching Kingdom Under Fire 2 for Windows PC in North America and Europe later this year.”

Will it blend?

Kingdom Under Fire 2 isn’t a pure MMORPG. Of course, it is very much an MMO game, but it actually combines two genres together. The game is a blend of MMORPG elements and real-time strategy, where you play as a hero commanding troops. Naturally, it is still an RPG by nature. It takes place in the land of Bersia, in which three factions fight for control. There are multiple classes to play. You also have a choice whether to run through the game solo or build up an army.

Kingdom Under Fire 2 is heading to PC later this year.
