The latest Pokémon revealed to be in the upcoming Pokémon Sword & Shield has a very familiar look to it, and Gene Simmons seems okay with it.

On Wednesday, Game Freak revealed a bunch of new Galarian forms of classic Pokémon that will be coming in Sword & Shield. Zigzagoon and Linoone both got Galarian forms that gave them a distinctive rockstar look and were even given a third evolution: Obstagoon.

We’ll get to the ins and outs of these new forms in a bit, but first we should address the elephant in the room. Pokémon games have historically taken from real life when thinking up new designs, but this is the first time we’ve seen an evolutionary line of ‘Mons based off a rock band. In this case, the classic hard rock band KISS.

First, there’s the makeup—or rather, the fur pattern on Zigzagoon, Linoone, and Obstagoon. The stars for the eyes are very reminiscent of KISS guitarist Paul Stanley. Then there’s the iconic tongue hanging out, which is pretty much KISS bassist Gene Simmons’ calling card. We wouldn’t be surprised if these Pokémon also breathed fire and barfed blood while on stage.

It didn’t take long for Simmons to note his new Pokémon doppleganger, but rather than ring up his lawyers he seemed speechless at his likeness being used in a children’s game.

In an interview with Newsweek, Simmons explained that it was actually an honor to be reborn in Pokémon form. “Pokémon has been a part of our household for decades, ever since our kids first discovered them. And to see Pokémon pay homage to KISS is flattering.”

The Zigzagoon line has never been particularly special in previous Pokémon games, but Obstagoon might change all that. This beefy ‘Mon comes with the Reckless and Guts abilities, and from the description offered by Game Freak, we can assume a few of Obstagoon’s moves.

“Though Obstagoon is extremely combative, it often does not launch the first attack. It will taunt an opponent, goading it into attacking. When it does, Obstagoon will cross its arms and meet the oncoming attack with its Obstruct move. Obstagoon is especially skilled at throwing its opponents off guard and counterattacking with its sharp claws.”

Sounds like Obstagoon might get Taunt, Counter, and Throw to start, which is an interesting combination. We’ll find out for sure when Pokémon Sword & Shield release on November 15th.
