Former SK Telecom T1 coach Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun has joined Vici Gaming as their head League of Legends coach. kkOma has spent the majority of his career with SKT, and is heavily credited with aiding in the growth of young talents like Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. He is widely regarded as the best League of Legends coach in the game’s history.

Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun first joined SK Telecom T1 as head coach ahead of the 2013 season. He recruited the five players that made up the organization’s first roster, featuring names like Faker, Chae “Piglet” Gwang-jin, and Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong. In their debut year, the team would win Korean Champions Summer before lifting the 2013 World Championship trophy.

SK Telecom T1 continued their rise in 2015, winning LCK Spring before a narrow Grand Final loss to EDward Gaming at the Mid-Season Invitational. The team found redemption immediately, winning LCK Summer before taking their second World Championship victory. This win made kkOma the first coach to ever win two World Championship titles.

kkOma and co. powered through 2016, winning LCK Spring and the Mid-Season Invitational. They remained unfazed after their third place finish in LCK Summer, coming back in full force to win their third World Championship title over Samsung Galaxy. SKT continued to exert their dominance in 2017, winning LCK Spring and another Mid-Season Invitational before finishing second in LCK Summer. A rematch was on the cards as SKT faced off against Samsung Galaxy in the 2017 World Championship Grand Final, this time losing to their domestic rivals.

Though kkOma remained as head coach, SKT struggled throughout the following year. They finally found some footing in 2019, taking victories in both LCK Spring and Summer. The team reached the semi-finals of both the Mid-Season Invitational and Worlds 2019.

SK Telecom T1 announced kkOma’s departure from the organization in November, as his contract with the organization had reached its end. He now signs with Vici Gaming, taking over as head coach. Vici Gaming has been active in professional League of Legends since 2012, though is yet to find consistent success. The Chinese squad placed 16th in LPL Spring 2019, and 15th in the following Summer season.

kkOma will debut as Vici’s head coach in the 2020 LPL Spring season.
