Hideo Kojima left Konami back on October 9 after a goodbye party which took place for around 100 people at Kojima Productions, according to a New Yorker source who was at the party but wishes to remain anonymous.
The party was described as “a rather cheerful but also emotional goodbye”.
The New Yorker believes Kojima has a non-compete clause which expires in December, at which point the Metal Gear creator will be free to find or create a new studio to continue making games.
Konami has so far denied Kojima’s departure, noting that he and his development team “are finished developing Metal Gear Solid V and are taking a long time off from work”.
Konami added that an extended vacation is common practice after the launch of a major title.
