Konami has published an official apology for the troubled launch of free-to-play soccer offering eFootball 2022.
The game officially launched this week in a basic state, including a limited number of teams and modes. However, players quickly found and reported several major issues, including gameplay bugs, graphical glitches and player models that looked very little like their real life counterparts. The situation got so bad that, as reported by Video Games Chronicle, it even became one of the worst rated Steam games in history.
Konami posted the statement addressing the issues to the game’s official Twitter account. “After the release of ‘eFootball 2022’ we have received lots of feedback and requests regarding game balance that includes pass speed and defence operation. We would also like to acknowledge that there have been reports of problems users have experienced with cut-scenes, facial expressions, movements of players and the behaviour of the ball.”
“We are very sorry for the problems,” they said. “And want to assure everyone we will take all concerns seriously and strive to improve the current situation.” The team pledge to begin work next week on an update they intend to launch in October, and will get further feedback by surveying players.
It was announced back in July that Konami would drop the PES name and launch eFootball as a free to play title. You can read the full apology in the tweet below. eFootball 2022 is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
