In an effort to promote their new album “The Nothing”, the nu metal band Korn is holding a concert in the massively multiplayer games AdventureQuest 3D and AdventureQuest Worlds. The band’s performance will mark the grand opening of the Battle Concert Arena, which, presumably, will hold more concerts in the future.

These online multiplayer titles may not be as popular as games like Destiny, but they still have a decent playerbase, with AdventureQuest 3D currently touting over 350,000 registered players. Regardless, they are apparently big enough to grab the attention of well-known bands like Korn.

Those already in the game who are anxious to see the band jamming in the virtual world, or those who are just eager to check out the spectacle, the special concert featuring the group will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at sundown (EST). The event is entirely free, as are the games where it will take place. Current players can grab a magic concert ticket in-game, which will teleport them to the event. New players will have tickets automatically added to their inventory.

Unlike typical music venues, Battle Concert Arena has players fighting monsters and earn loot all while listening to Korn play on stage. The show will feature at least one new song from the band’s upcoming album and take place in both AdventureQuest 3D and its 2D counterpart, AdventureQuest Worlds. Due to their different graphic styles, the virtual concert will look different depending on the game. Developer Artix Entertainment invites everyone to join the festivities on opening night, but for those who can’t make it, they can replay the event at any time for the next month. After that, however, the event will be gone forever.

Korn’s interest in playing a virtual concert in a video game may stem from frontman Jonathan Davis’ own love of the medium. In the past, the lead singer opened up about how video games became a helpful outlet for him during a tough period in his life. Back in 2006, Davis contracted a rare disease called ITP which threatened his life. While his main passion for music certainly played a part in his recovery, Davis claims video games were therapeutic as well, helping to put his mind at ease with everything that was going on.

This virtual concert is being touted as making video game history, but it isn’t the first concert to take place in a virtual world. In World of Warcraft, the band Elite Tauren Chieftan, through their virtual counterparts, The Tauren Chieftans, performed regularly in-game. Most recently, popular DJ and electronic music producer Mashmello held a live concert in Fortnite. The live, 10-minute concert was put on for players in February this year, which resulted in millions of attendees.

AdventureQuest 3D is available now for iOS, PC, and Android, AdventureQuest Worlds is also available now and is a browser-based title, available on PC, Mac, or Linux.
