From down on his luck mobster to ultimate savior of humanity, Kung Fu Jesus will use his feet and fists to beat bad guys and discover his ultimate destiny.
If it wasn’t abundantly clear already, Kung Fu Jesus is an indie game. There’s no publisher in the known universe that would try to sell a game with a name like “Kung Fu Jesus.” Well, maybe Devolver. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear Devolver pick this game up to help with its release.
But anyway, Kung Fu Jesus is an upcoming game from Celestial Gold Studios, a name that’s about as psychedelic as their game. And “psychedelic” is definitely the name of this game: there’s tons of lens flares, bisexual lighting, and oddly meditative music–and that’s just in the trailer.
It’s a little hard to pin down Kung Fu Jesus. According to the press release, the game is a “genre-busting action-adventure like no other” and “borrows from fighting games, action-adventures, action-RPGs and more.” There’s even a vehicular combat section and possibly a race.
Just about the only thing we can guarantee at this point is there will be some good old fashioned martial arts-style fighting. Other than that, your guess is as good as ours.
From the trailer, we can tell that Mr. Jesus will be fighting everything from angry mobsters to mutant thugs. There’s also talk of alternate dimensions, alien landscapes, and even battling the gods themselves.
As for the plot, well, all we have is what’s listed on the Steam preview page: “Down on his luck and working for a seedy gangster, Kung Fu Jesus walks the streets in a miserable daze. Little does he know his life is about to be transformed forever…”
If we had to guess, we’d say that Kung Fu Jesus will follow the same story arc as our Lord and Savior: he comes from absolute poverty, eventually gains a retinue of followers, discovers he’s the son of God, and finally goes on to save all of humanity through some sort of noble sacrifice.
All while battling mutants and aliens with his formidable kung fu. That’s in the New Testament, right?
Kung Fu Jesus comes out sometime in 2020 on PC only. Mark this game down on your Steam Wishlist and sign up on the official website for updates and potential beta test access.
