If one tries and cannot succeed, then maybe it’s time for a break. League of Legends champ Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was not sweating the fact that he missed minutes in the off-season and even gave his two cents with regards to the dangers of a daily grind and how it doesn’t lead to a better player at the end of the day.
“I think that as a professional esports player, practicing and competing [in] games every single day [is] not that great. That’s why I am participating in many (extra) activities… I don’t think those would distract my practicing time. I try to think those [activities] would broaden my perspective, which ultimately [helps] me focus on games,” Faker said in an interview with Fomos Esports (via Dot Esports).
Stepping away from the game when one hits a wall or overextending themselves is one of the easiest ways to get better, and one of the toughest things to do. A break can give the body and mind a chance to truly absorb the situation, adapt, and make better reads later on.
Though Faker didn’t specify what activities he enjoys, anything from playing a different genre game to doing something completely different will likely do the trick. One could imagine that doing the unthinkable and going outside might do wonders by giving players a break to recharge.
As for Faker, the off-season has hopefully allowed for him and T1 to recharge and get ready for action once the LCS Spring Split is in full swing. After winning their opening match against DAMWON gaming, T1 fell to Hanwha Life Esports with 2-1, bringing their current record to 1-1. Hopefully, Faker is laying off Jump King and the rest of the team can kick it into gear as it continues its pursuit of a fourth LCK title.
