Season 10 of the ranked ladder in League of Legends is well underway and millions of players from around the world have started their climb. With data coming in from various online sources, like Mobalytics and OP.GG, several characters are starting to stand out as viable solo queue champions.

Tier lists might change in the future, depending on buffs and nerfs from Riot Games. Due to this, the list of the 10 best solo characters in 2020 will focus on champions that will likely be suitable for solo queue climb regardless of changes.

2 champions for each of the 5 roles in the game are presented.

10 Top Lane: Ornn

Games are longer, and with the changes made to the Conqueror rune, tanks are back in the meta. Out of all the tanks that can be played in the top lane, Ornn stands out as a natural choice in a game replete with nonsense.

Ornn’s laning phase is very safe and his passive offers extra armor and magic resistance. Also, his ultimate offers one of the most reliable engage tools in the game.

The only problem with Ornn is that the champion is much more difficult to master than most players initially think. Unstoppable Breath helps avoid hard CC and the chance to forge item buffs for other champions offers thousands of dollars in extra gold during late game.

9 Top Lane: Sett

League of Legends’ latest champion took the top lane by storm. His versatility was praised by many players and in professional leagues from around the world, it’s expected for him to be close to 100% picked or banned.

Although mastering Sett takes time, the versatility offered cannot be denied. His Haymaker is a team fight changing tool and his ultimate can easily turn the tides in any battle.

Conqueror is the most popular Keystone for Sett but others can be considered, based on personal playstyle and team compositions.

8 Jungle: Warwick

Warwick was released in 2009 and the current state of the champion is perfect for a Season 10 solo queue climb. The champion is deceptively tanky and hard to kill. At the same time, he offers good gank assistance, especially in lanes with champions that have some sort of extra crowd control.

The difficulty in playing Warwick stands in knowing when to use CC and how to properly use Jaws of the Beast to reposition in team fights.

Usually, Warwick is among the last champions to die in fights but the goal is to disrupt the carries and make them do less damage.

7 Jungle: Master Yi

Master Yi is often considered to be a champion suitable only in low ELO but because of the changes that happened in the Rift, with dragons being more important than ever, he is now considered as God Tier by many.

The huge advantage Master Yi offers is the possibility to quickly take down drakes and Baron. At the same time, his Alpha Strike allows smart repositioning in team fights. If left unchecked, Master Yi can easily kill the entire enemy team. However, without items, the champion is very easy to control and kill.

6 Mid Lane: Diana

After the latest champion change, with her E and R switched around, Diana became a much more viable option in the mid lane. As an AP assassin with a very strong team fight ultimate, the champion is expected to even appear in pro play.

Diana used to be a weak champion until level 6, but the already-mentioned skill swap changed that. Skilled players can gain a huge laning advantage and can easily roam to influence other lanes. Also, the champion can be played in different ways, with various possible builds viable.

5 Mid Lane: Rumble

Rumble became popular in the mid lane after professional players started picking him up and taking full advantage of his game-changing ultimate.

The reason why Rumble is viable in season 10 in the mid lane is that many of the popular picks do not have a strong pushing potential. When this champion is played, the goal is to push the lane and then influence the top lane or bottom lane.

When faced with top opposition, Rumble struggles but can be picked when the jungler can offer assistance. Often, Rumble requires a strong engage team member for the perfect Equalizer position while the enemy team is distracted.

4 Bot: Senna

Most professionals prefer Senna or Aphelios but for solo queue climb, Senna is better. Games are longer in Season 10 and Senna has an endless scaling potential due to her passive. When played with an engage support and Glacial Augment, she has very strong kill potential.

The big advantage of playing Senna is the scaling attack range. This is combined with high kiting potential and some of the highest possible damage in the late game. In team fights, Senna can end up easily attacking different opponents while offering really strong CC with Last Embrace.

3 Bot: Miss Fortune

Miss Fortune is back in the meta and stands out as one of the most efficient ADCs in League of Legends. This is mainly because of the highly oppressive laning phase and the chance to easily build armor penetration early in the game.

Although Miss Fortune is not a mobile champion, her Make It Rain skill gives access to some kiting while Bullet Time can easily change the course of team fights, especially when they happen in tight corridors.

Like all similar bot ADC champions, Miss Fortune is best played with engage or protection supports.

2 Support: Janna

Janna is back in the meta due to the prevalence of tanks and immobile ADCs. At the same time, she has the advantage of a really strong disengage with Monsoon.

While in professional play this champion is not viable because of the coordination of players, in solo queue things are different. Her Eye of the Storm offers extra AD for other champions and her survivability is much higher than anticipated, with very good crowd control and extra protection offered.

Janna can be played with Glacial Augment or Aery, based on team compositions.

1 Support: Leona

Leona is one of the tankiest support champions in the game, with really good crowd control and highly effective engage tools available. The champion is even viable in professional play at the moment.

Season 10 revolves around controlling drakes and work on other projects, like Legends of Runeterra, Riot Games’ newest CCG. Champions like Leona withstand the test of time, with very strong base stats, can offer zone control for early drakes.

The only problem with Leona is that once she engages, there is no way to disengage. That is why it is often difficult for players to balance engage with the necessary gameplay of protecting the carries.
