Riot Games have yet again promised changes to the ever-nerfed Akali, along with other champion changes and a whole new skin line in time for Valentines. Akali, Yuumi, Senna, Aphelios, and Wukong will receive updates, and two new Heartseeker skins will be making their way to League of Legends.

Akali will be getting nerfed, again. The energy cost on her Q ability will be increased, and her shroud ability will be changed to on cast movement speed rather than continuous movement speed when in her shroud. Akali’s ultimate will be changed to an enemy champion target mechanic rather than her free target mechanic. Here are the full details:

Five Point Strike (Q):

  • Energy Cost: 100/95/90/85/80 »> 140/130/120/110/100

Twilight Shroud (W):

  • Akali gain 20/25/30/35/40% movement speed while in her shroud »> Akali gains 30/35/40/45/50% decaying movement speed for 2 seconds on cast.

Perfect Execution (R):

  • R1 Targeting: Free Targeted »> Enemy Champion Targeted R1 Target Range: 625 R1 Dash Distance: 625-675 based on distance from enemy

It’s not surprising that Akali gets nerfed, but it is that she isn’t reworked. In the Dev Corner post by Lead Game Designer, Mark “Riot Scruffy” Yetter, he talks about how Akali is dominating both “pro and elite play” and not doing the same for “skilled and normal play.” With the approaching changes coming to Akali, Mark reveals that they want to play around with the champions wave clear and movement speed, in hopes that it reduces her lane trade and push power. And ultimately, dials down Akali’s mid supremacy in League of Legends.

Although Akali might get another saddening nerf, there are some positive notes in Riot Games’ announcement. Aphelios will be getting the nerf he deserves, no more one-shot across the map montages. Wukong, the “forgotten” monkey king, will be getting a long-awaited buff the champion needed. Senna is moving away from the markswoman life and spending most of her days as a support. And Yuumi will be buffed to give the character more justice as the magical cat from Bandle City.

Along with the patch reveal, two new skins from the Heartseeker cosmetic line will be making its way to League of Legends in time for Valentines. Those skins are Heartseeker Jinx and Heartseeker Yuumi. Both skins shout adorable at deafening levels with Heartseeker Yuumi, designed as a pink gradient magical cat with gold embellishments and a romantic book for the champion to sit on, and Heartseeker Jinx with long purple flowing pigtails, a heart-shaped minigun, and a pink teddybear rocket launcher to keep the bad guys away.

League of Legends Patch 10.3 is scheduled to release on February 5.
