[UPDATE: Contrary to a prior claim, Bungie has confirmed that this raid set is for the Garden of Salvation raid. The prior story continues below. Read Bungie’s comment.]

At PAX West this weekend, Bungie let attendees go hands on with the revamped 3v3 elimination mode and some returning maps for the Destiny 2: Shadowkeep expansion. However, what the developer likely wasn’t expecting was that those attendees would start poking through the game’s files and sharing details online.

While the bigger details are still kept carefully underwraps, some of the new Destiny 2: Shadowkeep exotic weapons leaked as part of the demo, as well as a gear set that has caused quite the controversy. Apparently, Destiny 2 players are frustrated that what they believe is the Shadowkeep raid armor is a reskin from an earlier armor set. But later that day Bungie set the record straight and players can breathe easy.

It all started when a few PAX West attendees shared images from an armor set in the game files of Destiny 2: Shadowkeep. Because the armor set appeared alongside an exotic weapon tied to a raid quest, many assumed it was the Garden of Salvation raid armor.

Players then looked closer at the gear and realized it bears a striking resemblance to an Eververse armor set from back during Curse of Osiris. As one might expect, a controversy erupted within the Destiny 2 community, with thousands of players voicing their frustrations over being offered reskinned armor as top tier raid loot.

But later in the day, another PAX West attendee was able to confirm with Bungie that this armor is actually not the raid armor set. Instead, this set is tied to the new Vex Offensive activity that is launching with Destiny 2: Shadowkeep and will be part of the Season Pass.

Apparently, the confusion stems from the fact that this raid exotic, a trace rifle called Divinity, drops first as a legendary version from Vex Offensive and then players turn it exotic by completing raid challenges. So it is in the same collection as the Vex Offensive loot and not the Garden of Salvation raid loot.

Of course, there is still the element of reskinned armor to argue about but at the very least Destiny 2 fans can breathe easy that there is a non-reskin raid armor set coming with Shadowkeep. Some think that the armor set in the Season of Undying key art is the raid set, while other theories peg it as the new Eververse set. Whatever the case may be, there is at least one unique armor set coming with Shadowkeep and hopefully more tied to the endgame.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases October 1, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
