Epic has assured us that Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 2 is coming on February 20, 2020, and the first leak as to what the new season might bring has landed.

Fortnite Chapter 2 arrived all the way back in October 2019, bringing with it a whole new map. We say “whole new map,” but some of the locations from the original island managed to survive the transition. Three months later, and the first season of Chapter 2 is still ongoing, making it one of the longest Fortnite seasons to date.

Epic has since confirmed when Season 1 will come to an end and has also explained why it has been so much longer than usual. Season 2 will usher in the use of Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics, and Epic wants to make sure everything is just right before releasing it to the masses. Since there are now less than four weeks until that roll out happens, Epic will already have everything planned for Season 2 ready and raring to go.

The trouble with being so prepared is there are players out there who are so eager to find out what’s next that leaks are inevitable. This is more so with Fortnite than any other game, or at least that’s how it feels. New images, first leaked by @iOllekOW, show what the map might look like when Season 2 arrives on February 20, and there appear to be a couple of wholesale changes to look forward to.

As you can see in the top right-hand corner of the island, Steamy Stacks seems to have been engulfed in a purple haze of some sort. The leaked images, which were possibly taken from Season 2’s launch trailer, look as if the game’s characters find themselves caught up in that haze. On the opposite corner of the island, down at Slurpy Swamp, it looks like there may be a few problems occurring at the Slurp Juice factory in the not-so-distant future.

If replenishing our shields is about to become as simple as wading through Slurpy Swamp, then count us in. The trouble with leaks like these is that there is no way of telling if they are legitimate or not until they actually happen, or don’t. Epic will remain tight-lipped on what Season 2 will hold, and chances are we won’t see how the map will be altered until we are gliding above it on February 20.
