Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was announced a while back, and it’s not likely many envisioned it to be a live-service game. Taking place in a fully realized Metropolis, Suicide Squad will follow Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang through an adventure in the same universe as the Batman Arkham series. Reasonably, we had assumed the game would follow the similar single-player formula of developer Rocksteady Studios’ well-known franchise. However, a leak seems to indicate that Suicide Squad may receive a Battle Pass, hinting at the opposite instead.

According to VGC, an image originally posted on 4chan (subsequently verified via VGC’s sources) originates from a recent test build, showing several menus based on the co-op elements of the game. In the image, you can see options for your squad, such as loadout, talents, and more. But more damning is the tab that shows the inclusion of a Battle Pass.

Suicide Squad Battle Pass is mostly cosmetics, according to dev source

A “development source” reportedly told VGC that the Battle Pass will focus on cosmetics instead of any other rewards. Suicide Squad is able to be played solo or by up to four players online through co-op. So the live-service elements could possibly resemble a game such as Dying Light 2: Stay Human. There are also other icons that seem to hint at types of experience points used to level up your characters. Another tab in the image points to the existence of an in-game store.

Rocksteady was in the news in 2020 following allegations of misconduct. While the company announced steps had been taken to solve the issues, female employees signed a letter a day later stating the opposite. Other recent concerns surrounding the company include the departure of its co-founders in October 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is slated for a May 26 release date.
