The upcoming Plants vs. Zombies: Battle For Neighborville trailer has been leaked online.
We knew for a while now that EA was planning on making another Plants vs. Zombies game. We didn’t know exactly what it would be called, but we assumed it would be another console/PC game given how they revealed its existence during an investor call. Mobile games might make bank, but it’s almost a given at this point that they will. Nobody gets excited over it anymore.
That was back in February. Since then, EA has confirmed Plants vs. Zombies at every quarterly earnings call, along with a new Need for Speed game. Details remained few, however, until very, very recently.
Yesterday, a trailer was posted online by the Uncharted Scopes Twitter account. It was quickly taken down due to an EA copyright strike (we assume), but by then it was too late. The internet did its thing, and now you can see the half-finished trailer all over YouTube.
And we assume it’s half-finished. Part of the CG is missing and is replaced with black-and-white outlines, there are frame rate issues, a counter in the bottom right-hand corner, and some of the projectiles fired don’t seem to exist once the muzzle flash stops.
That said, we are still able to glean a few details from the trailer. It looks like both sides of the great war are getting new units, with plants getting a Ninja Mushroom class as well as an Acorn that can bury itself with three of its pals to grow into a big, hulking tree equipped with some sort of biological bazooka.
On the Zombie side, we see a Disco Zombie complete with giant afro and rollerskates, as well as a Rockstar Zombie that can summon a rocket and ride it into battle.
Also, it’s all in third-person, making it look like a second sequel to the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare series. Only it’s not called Garden Warfare 3; it’s actually called Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.
EA has been quiet about the leak, so there are still no official details like platforms or a release date, but hopefully we’ll get some details at this year’s Gamescom at the end of the month.
