When shopping for a new display in this range, LG UltraWide Monitors vs. Samsung UltraWides is the first thing you should consider. Both are leading manufacturers of these large displays and you might be surprised by how closely some models compare.

LG UltraWide Monitors vs. Samsung Ultrawides: Side-by-Side Comparison

What Is an Ultrawide Monitor?

For decades, monitors stuck to the same form factor and aspect ratio. As technology advanced and panels became thinner, the displays started to get wider. That wasn’t good enough for some, which is where “Ultra” wide monitors come into play.

An Ultrawide monitor has an aspect ratio of 21:9. You’re getting over 30% more screen space over a widescreen monitor and well over double that of a traditional PC monitor.

This is ideal when you need to work with multiple windows side-by-side or for entertainment. These monitors can provide a more immersive experience compared to the standard 16:9 ratio.

LG UltraWide Monitors vs. Samsung Ultrawides: What’s the Difference?

The first thing to know about Samsung and LG monitors is that both companies have new monitors in a variety of sizes along with older models that are still available. The easiest way to break down their Ultrawide collection is by size, starting with the large 49-inch monitors from LG and Samsung.

40 to 50-inch LG and Samsung Ultrawide Monitors

Most of LG’s UltraWide monitors are listed as QHD or DQHD. The LG 49WQ95C-W is one monitor in the DQHD class, with a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440.

The display uses Nano IPS technology on the curved panel which is ideal for professionals thanks to 98% DCI-P3 and VESA Display HDR 400. It’s a 144Hz monitor that’s G-SYNC compatible, although there are also 60HZ variants available like the LG UltraWide 49WL95C-WY.

Another ultra-wide 4K monitor from LG is the LG 40WP95C-W. This monitor isn’t as large as their 49-inch panels and has a higher price tag. But it comes with some top-tier features.

  • 40” Curved WUHD (5120 x 2160) Nano IPS DisplayThunderbolt 4 Connectivity with 96W Power DeliveryDCI-P3 98% (Typ.) with HDR1010W x 2 Built in Speakers with Rich Bass3-Side Virtually Borderless Design

The curved Samsung Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor is a beastly display with G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro. It’s a 1000R monitor with the perfect curve and a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440.
