Professional Violinist Lindsey Stirling put on an incredible VR concert live on Twitch. Stirling teamed up with WaveXR (A platform that produces amazing VR concerts) to help promote her newest upcoming album, Artemis. If you missed it, you can watch it right here.
The concert consisted of a relatively short set list, that highlighted some of her songs from Artemis. The stream showed Stirling “playing” along to her new songs as she danced while being tracked into the VR concert. Her movements were shown through an animated avatar that mimicked exactly what she was doing. The concert itself was gorgeous and continued to show the potential of what VR can do. The immersive experience is something that has to be seen first-hand to really get a grasp of it, but the video alone is beautiful to watch.
Lindsey Stirling is no video game noob, either. She has done various covers of iconic video games and franchises such as; Zelda, Assassin’s Creed, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, and Halo. It’s obvious that she loves games and is a fan of some masterful musical scores that accompany them, making her a perfect performer to feature in a VR concert on Twitch. A personal favorite of mine is her Zelda Medley.
As VR continues to evolve, gaming and concerts play an important part in all of it. The level of immersion it provides is enough to get people interested and when it’s pulled-off well (like the Stirling concert and certain games) it keeps consumers hooked. Being able to go to concerts in the comfort of your own home is an appealing concept. Nothing truly beats a live concert, but people that can’t afford to go or don’t have the time, those who have disabilities, or who struggle in social settings, can experience it as well. The benefits outweigh the setbacks.
Lindsey Stirling provided Twitch viewers with a beautiful VR concert that helps to highlight the ever evolving world of VR entertainment. Not only is it a smart pr move, but it was a unique way to promote her upcoming album. As VR continues to evolve, these types of events can become more and more common, allowing even more opportunities to grow the consumer-base. You can pre-order Stirling’s Artemis here. It will officially be released on 9/6.
