New pet simulator Little Friends: Dogs & Cats is coming to Nintendo Switch later this month. Here’s everything you need to know.

When you think of some of the best-selling games of all time, there are likely quite a few that immediately spring to mind. Grand Theft Auto V is currently at 110 million copies sold worldwide and counting. Tetris and Minecraft are the only two titles that have outsold it with 170 million and 154 million copies sold, respectively. Those are expected, dbut you don’t have to scroll too far down the list to discover a somewhat unexpected entry, Nintendogs.

At a little less than 24 million copies sold, Nintendogs is the 31st best-selling game of all time. It was the best-selling DS game outside of Mario and Pokémon titles and, 14 years later, Nintendo might well have visions of trying to match that success. On May 28, Little Friends: Dogs & Cats will be released on the Nintendo Switch.

The brand new pet simulator has even gone a step further than Nintendogs and will allow players to pick between cats and dogs. There are nine breeds in total, to be exact, including toy poodles, French bulldogs, and American shorthairs. If you can’t choose just one, don’t panic. Players will be able to interact with three pets and also be able to use their pet hotel to house a total of 12 furry friends.

So, what will you be able to do with your new pet pals? Well, thanks to the wonders of technology, you’ll actually be able to pet them and show them affection via the Switch’s touch screen, although we wouldn’t recommend using that feature on your TV while the console is docked. You’ll also be able to play fetch with your kittens and pups, unlock new toys, and practice for the flying disc tournament.

Our favorite feature of all is the customization. As you can see from the trailer above, there are some pretty wacky items available for you to kit out your companions. There are over 600 of them in fact, although we personally can’t get enough of equipping them with oversized headphones.

Little Friends: Dogs & Cats will be available from May 28, 2019, on the Nintendo eShop and in stores in North America for $49.99.
