During Nintendo’s latest Direct, more info on Luigi’s Mansion 3 was revealed, including new hotel floors and even a new multiplayer mode. Originally announced back in September, the third installment in the Luigi’s Mansion series is one of the Switch’s most anticipated titles coming up.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is going bigger than its predecessors in many ways. For starters, it’s not only Mario who is captured, but Princess Peach and Toad as well. The game is taking place in a hotel rather than the usual mansion, and each floor will have a unique theme. During PAX West, a gameplay demo was made available for the garden-themed floor. That is just one example of the hotel’s areas, and today Nintendo has revealed a few more.
During the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo confirmed three more hotel floors in Luigi’s Mansion 3: Tomb Suites, The Dance Hall, and The Spectral Catch. Tomb Suites appears to be Egyptian-based, complete with a pyramid (somehow that fits inside a hotel) and mummies. The Dance Hall will have Luigi dancing it out, while The Spectral Catch will feature a “pirate-themed restaurant,” according to Nintendo. There will be boss battles, one of which appears to be a ghostly shark that takes over a pirate ship.
As seen in the Tweet, arguably the biggest reveal was the new multiplayer mode: ScreamPark. This is different than the ScareScraper mode. Whereas ScareScraper is all about cooperation, ScreamPark is a party mode focusing on competition. Up to 8 players can battle on one Nintendo Switch console, with teams dividing between Luigis and Gooigis. There are three types of battles in ScreamPark. First, there’s simply trying to defeat the most ghosts. The second has the characters on floaties trying to collect the most coins. Finally, the third one is about breaking the most targets.
All in all, everything is pointing to Luigi’s Mansion 3 being the best game in the series. Every floor is different, ensuring there’s a unique time to be had as Luigi traverses the haunted hotel. The game appears to have a strong multiplayer element as well. Not only are there modes like ScareScraper and ScreamPark, but there’s co-op in the main campaign as well thanks to Gooigi.
Luigi’s Mansion 3 releases October 31 on Nintendo Switch.
