A few weeks ago we told you about the very sad news of the passing of Machinima founder and Left-Hand Path creator Hugh Hancock. His passing was a real shock that knocked me for six.
Scottish newspaper The Herald has now posted Hugh’s Obituary online which looks back at his all too short career in the videogame industry. The article includes some comments from myself and also Gordon McDonald. Here’s a snip:
“Hugh’s position as a founding father of machinima was cemented in 2000 when he and Gordon founded an online hub enabling this new generation of filmmakers to communicate and share their work. “This grew from us making movies, but having no reliable way of distributing them – this being before YouTube,” Gordon explained. In 2016, by which point machinima.com was reaching nearly 150 million viewers each month, Hugh – intent on VR games development – opted to sell the site to Warner Brothers for nearly $100 million.”
Hugh will be greatly missed and our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
