EA Sports has dropped the first gameplay trailer for Madden NFL 23, the latest game in its long running American Football franchise.
The latest game arrives in just over a week, and will see the return of the game’s namesake John Madden himself on the cover, following his untimely passing last year.
The footage includes a game in the Madden Championship Series between two popular Madden content creators, TDBarrett and Cleff. Check it out below.

Madden NFL 23 – release date and new features
Madden NFL 23 will release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 19, 2022. It’ll be available as standard, or in an All Madden edition as a digital exclusive.
The headline new feature that EA are touting this time around is known as FieldSENSE. It’s a gameplay system that’s said to provide “a foundation for consistent, ultra realistic gameplay” on the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions.
The technology allows for a couple of new mechanics that American Football fans are sure to love. 360 Cuts will allow players to change direction while controlling the ball-carrier. Skill Based Passing, meanwhile, offers more precise control when passing the ball.
Beyond FieldSENSE, lots of fan-favourite modes are also set to return. They include Franchise Mode, including new Free Agency and Contract enhancements, improvements to Scouting, Hub and Trade logic.
Naturally, Madden Ultimate Team also makes its return in Madden NFL 23, with the promise of simplified team building. There’s also a brand new seasonal Field Pass progression systems, as well as a Competitive Pass to boot.
