At the end of September, the rotation of the Magic: The Gathering Standard format will dramatically alter the metagame of Magic: The Gathering Arena. Indeed, four sets will be exiting Standard, while many exciting new cards will be entering with the release of MTG’s Throne of Eldraine set. This shift will undoubtedly leave many players needing entirely new cards in order to build entirely new decks, and Wizards of the Coast is looking to assist these players by offering free cards in MTG Arena.

More specifically, players that login to Magic: The Gathering Arena before September 26, the day that Standard rotates on MTG Arena, will receive 10 rare or better individual card rewards. These free MTG Arena cards will be from the Standard 2020 sets, which are Guilds of Ravnica, Ravnica Allegiance, War of the Spark, Core Set 2020, and the forthcoming Throne of Eldraine. For those that are interested in building a new Standard deck upon rotation, these free cards in Magic: The Gathering Arena should not be missed.

Additionally, players that login to MTG Arena prior to September 26 will receive additional rewards as they advance through the first 25 levels of Throne of Eldraine Set Mastery. While players that do not login before the designated date will only receive 12 Throne of Eldraine packs and two Mastery Orbs for completing these Set Mastery levels, those that do sign in to Magic: The Gathering Arena will receive these Set Mastery rewards:

  • 14 Throne of Eldraine Packs 2 Mastery Orbs 4 Standard Packs (GRN, RNA, WAR, M20) 20 Uncommon Individual Card Rewards

The details on these MTG Arena free cards and additional renewal rewards were confirmed during today’s Magic: The Gathering Arena State of the Beta. Wizards also took this opportunity to make a number of interesting announcements about the MTG Arena Historic format. This format will allow players to build decks with cards that have rotated out of Standard, and WotC has now confirmed that it will be adding cards from Magic’s history directly into the Magic: The Gathering Arena Historic format.

Between Standard rotation and the forthcoming Historic format, now is undoubtedly a great time to be a Magic Arena player. Wizards is only making that more true by offering Magic: The Gathering Arena free cards, and players should make sure to take full advantage of this opportunity.

Magic: The Gathering Arena is available now in open beta on PC.
