Magic: The Gathering Arena is hosting a brand new Brawl event for a limited time.

Throne of Eldraine, the upcoming Magic: The Gathering expansion, is coming later this month. To get people excited and to give away a few preview cards, Magic: The Gathering Arena is hosting a new event to introduce players to the new set.

It’s called the “Eldraine Courtside Brawl Event”, and not only does it introduce card from the upcoming set,  it also introduces a new format. Brawl is sort of like if Commander was put on a diet. Instead of 100-card singleton decks, Brawl decks are 60 cards. They still have a commander who has to be either a Legendary or Planeswalker, and every card in a Brawl deck must share a color with that deck’s commander.

Constructed Brawl decks are expected to be added to MTG Arena in a future update, but you can see how the format plays out by choosing one of four different Brawl decks that will eventually go on sale when Throne of Eldraine releases.

The event is a 1v1 format where you pick one of those four Brawl decks and then take it against a random opponent. Since this is 1v1, each player has 25 life–in multiplayer Brawl games, your life total would normally be 30. Brawl also goes by cards available in Standard format, but there’s no reason that real-life constructed Brawl decks can’t go further back into Magic’s library.

Besides getting to play with cards from the new set, you can even earn some of those cards by winning in Courtside Brawl. Your first win will net you a playset of Heraldic Banner and 1,000 XP, while subsequent wins get you a playset of Syr Konrad, the Grim, Faerie Vandal, Savvy Hunter, Inspiring Veteran, and Order of Midnight. And you’ll get them weeks before Eldraine goes on sale!

Courtside Brawl is on until September 9th, so download the MTG Arena app and get playing!
